Nucomme's Musical Journey
Nucomme was born and raised in Corpus Christi and Houston, TX. A southern woman in the truest sense of the word, Nucomme stems from a line of delicate southern songbirds on her maternal side.
At an early age, Nucomme gravitated towards Jazz music and theatrical directing. Though adept at producing solid theater productions, by the age of eighteen, Nucomme‚ heart eventually found its way back to the music. Her soul found refuge during the quiet moments spent with Anita Baker and Sarah Vaughn, her body found refuge in Harlem where she furthered her studies/vocal training in classical music.
Hailing from Houston, TX; by the age of nineteen, Nucomme made New York her current place of residence.
While helming her writing skills during a brief stint on the poetry circuit, Nucomme found herself purchasing a guitar on a whim with the use of her rent money. Over a period of time, she eventually taught herself to play… and even managed to pay her rent as well.
After a series of stints on the Apollo Amateur Night and a few other private affairs, Nucomme began to seriously delve into her songwriting and musical arrangement. Her dedication, in turn, led to a bevy of gigs to follow: Ford Spotlight Artist of 2007, The Apollo Theatre, Drom, The Bandshell (Prospect Park), St. Nick’s Pub, Sputnik, Joe’s Pub w/ the Black Rock Coalition.
Numerous hours spent underground the concrete jungle became her home-away-from-home, as she played continuous nights between the rocking subway cars. This proved not only a means for her to concentrate on her stage presentation and to overcome her stage fright, but also a means to make money.
Soon after she collected enough material practicing Nucomme released her first EP project titled "Hologram" in 2007. Hologram is a five track EP that delves into some of her inner most fears. A journey of disappointments and triumph layered with soulful harmonies. A lyrically driven EP carefully woven with jazz overtones and blues rhythms.
Her current project "Betty's Story" A multimedia tribute to Betty Mabry Davis—ex-wife and muse of Miles Davis, contemporary of Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone, and innovator of jazz funk fusion. Raunchy, raw, outrageous, Betty was
decades ahead of her time in the early ‘70s, when she released three critically acclaimed albums steeped in sexual energy and in your face takes on love, power, and gender roles. While she disappeared from the music scene in the
mid-‘70s her musical and stylistic influence is still evident from Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew album to artists like Madonna and Prince. Nucomme Davis-Walker tells Betty’s story through music, dance, radio interviews and photos.
The present is proving to be a testing ground for Nucomme’s audience, whose spirit resides in the past, present and future. And as vast and transcending as her audience is, her music is quickly becoming that of which transcends space and time as we know it.
